Corby Town 1 - 1 Eastwood Town (H)

If ever a team had their chance of revenge against the team that knocked them out of the FA Cup last week it was Corby Town today.

One goal up in the first half through Phil Gulliver and a second half penalty awarded and the Eastwood defender sent off.

Surely this was the coup de grace for Eastwood, 2-0 up and it was curtains for them.

Steve Diggin has the ball in his hand ready to take the penalty, but a shout from manager Graham Drury for Paul Mayo to take it overules him.

Mayo's penalty is a non event and easily saved by keeper Ross Turner.

Drury's explanation after match was that Mayo had been a penalty king in his days at Lincoln City and never missed one for them.

Everybody knew what was going to happen next.

In the 82 minute substitute Peter Knox runs through the centre of the Corby defence and makes it 1-1.

Try as they might Corby can't get themselves back in front and finish the day in 6th place instead of second.

A good crowd of 603 shows the club is gradually winning over more support than has ever been seen at the Triangle.

Unfortunately their is no home game now for three weeks and the club will feel the pinch next week having already been knocked out of the FA Cup.

A disappointing end for the crowd today but manager Graham Drury will not accept second best and one thing is for certain - there will be better days to come.
