Corby Town 2 - 2 Gainsborough Trinity (H)

This game was only able to go ahead thanks to the help from a number of volunteers who armed with rakes went along to the Triangle early Boxing Day morning.

It did not take long for them to be rewarded when a cross from Leon Hibbert, after good work from Steve Diggin, allowed Brett Solkhon (3 minutes) to side-foot the ball home.

The Steelmen held their advantage to half time when manager Graham Drury substituted Diggin for Jack Defty.

The game looked all over when Leon Mettam hit a great strike from 25 yards to give Corby a 2-0 cushion.

Fans were just beginning to believe Corby's home gremlins had become a thing of the past when Ashley Burbeary (78 minutes) scored for Gainsborough to make the last twelve minutes uncomfortable for the team and home supporters.

Just when it looked as if they had held out Paul Mayo (88 minutes) tried to head the ball back to keeper Mark Osborn only to bury the ball into the corner of his own net.

If there had to be a sucker punch on this Boxing Day occassion it would have to be in the oppositions favour.

This was however the last home game of the 2009 year and I am sure everyone connected with the club will want to see things improve on the home front in 2010.
