Corby Town 2 - 1 Northampton Town (H)
A crowd of over 1,000 at the Rockingham Triangle this afternoon witnessed a business-like performance from Corby Town against their near neighbours Coca Cola Division 2 side Northampton Town.
A stunning header from Jason Lee opened the scoring for the Steelmen after 13 minutes and then Chris Willmott could only help the ball into his own net after good work from Lawrie Dudfield. ( 31 minutes).
Corby deservedly led 2-0 at half time.
In the second half Billy McKay reduced the arrears after 71 minutes when for almost the first time Corby dithered on the edge of their own box and paid the penalty for not clearing when they had the opportunity.
There was no question of Corby having to hang on for a result though as they could have easily increased their lead on several occasions.
After Wednesday's result against Huddersfield Town this was just the tonic the Steelmen needed and they can now look forward to Tuesday's recently arranged away game against Spalding on Tuesday evening.
Date of fixture: Sat 18 Jul 09
