Ilkeston Town 3 - 2 Corby Town (A)
Ilkeston Town 3 v Corby Town 2
Ilkeston Scorers: Morgan Smith 45 ( pen) Morgan-Smith 80 (pen) Burge 85 v
Corby Town Scorers: Mayo 17, Millar 53.
Inside three minutes Glenn Walker had to leave the field with a cut to his head that required six stitches, Jamie McGhee substituted for him.
Corby took the lead in the 17th minute with a superb free kick from Paul Mayo.
Ilkeston offered little until the referee awarded them a penalty when Paul Mayo and an Ilkeston player managed to wrestle each other to the ground and Morgan-Smith slotted the ball home in injury time in the first half.
Corby took the lead again in the second half in the 53rd minute with a header from Ricky Millar.
In the 80th minute the referee again awarded a penalty to Ilkeston, although the assistant referee saw nothing wrong, when an Ilkeston forward blasted the ball at Phil Gulliver from short range. Some refs would have given it and some would have waved it away. Unfortunately we had the former last night and Morgan-Smith made the score 2-2.
Previously to this Leon Hibbert had limped off with a groin strain to be replaced by Gavin Strachan who at 2-1 could have made the game certain but only managed to balloon the ball over the bar from close range.
In the 85th minute Ilkeston substitute Josh Burge won the game for them by rifling the ball home from the edge of the box.
Corby will be more than disappointed to have lost a game they surely should have won but Graham Drury will be hoping to put things right on Saturday when the Steelmen take on Vauxhall Motors.
