Corby Town 3 - 2 Daventry Town (H)
Leon Mettam came to the rescue to enable Corby Town to win the Hillier Cup and give themselves a fixture against Peterborough United for the Maunsell Cup at the start of next season.
Daventry Town came to the Rockingham Triangle sitting top of the United Counties League and having lost just one match all season, and they did themselves proud giving the Steelmen a really tough game.
When Steve Diggin scored from the penalty spot after 18 minutes it looked as if the Steelmen were on their way but Daventry hit back within 5 minutes with a goal from Russell Dunkley.
A mis-kick by keeper Joe Mellings allowed Brett Solkhon to give Corby the lead again after 41 minutes but Daventry came straight back again and equalised a minute later with a goal from Adam Confue.
Manager Graham Drury made a double change by bringing on Leon Mettam and Jack Defty and it was this pair who created the winning goal.
A superb turn from Defty in the 73rd minute shook off two defenders and he then picked out Leon Mettam perfectly who finished the job with a great strike that left keeper Joe Mellings clutching thin air.
