CHAIRMAN ON PRICES
It is interesting to read the comments on the fans website reference prices and season tickets for the forthcoming season.
Those who believe we should be reducing our prices should ask themselves what sort of team do we want at Corby.
Manager Graham Drury and I want a team who can realistically challenge for the top spots in the league and hopefully promotion to the Blue square Bet Premier League.
For that we need good players and have to pay the going rate in this league.
We also need to ensure we start off well and attract, as we did last season, gates of over 700.
This didn't last long as our home form was so poor gates fell away to just over 200.
Some people are suggesting season tickets are reduced to £6.19 per game. With the VAT taken out the club would receive only £5.27 of this. It is simply not enough to sustain a good playing squad.
It is not surprising that most of the promoted clubs like Southport and Fleetwood have the biggest attendances and therefore the biggest incomes.
That is what we have to aim at at Corby Town and the only way we will compete in this league is to generate enough income to pay our players and make it possible for Graham Drury to bring in new talent if it is needed.
For that we need a commitment from our supporters.
We realise these are difficult times but I believe manager Graham Drury has put together a squad that is going to be worth watching this season and hopefully fans will feel they are receiving value for money.
Making everything as cheap as possible will only result in the club falling away down the leagues. That is not something we are prepared to let happen.
Everything in Corby is on the up and we want the football club to play its part in the new town.
Supporters coming to the Triangle will see for themselves the transformation that is taking place and soon we will have our own ground. We want to stamp it with success and watch it grow accordingly.
There is no reason why Corby Town shouldn't be competing with Kettering Town and Rushden & Diamonds.
But make no mistake we will need help.
That help has to come through the turnstiles and it is our job to put a team on the park to make people want to come through them every week not just three or four matches a season.
We think we have priced the season right and if we get the crowds then the club should be in a position to challenge for top spots this season. This is our ambition.
For some it may be hard to swallow but the club feel we have it right and can deliver what the supporters want.
Hopefully they will soon feel a trip to the Triangle is well worth the money.
